A few words on the Lucero Social Club

Hey everyone,

This is Thaddeus, Lucero’s manager. I was reading some of the comments on the Message Board.

First, the Social Club is 100% created and run by Lucero and me. No label involvement. It’s an attempt to have a place where we can have our fans and friends do some spreading of the word and have some prizes, contests and such. But participation is totally voluntary- if you can help, great. If not, maybe later on or in some other way.

We’ll have music and tickets to give away from time to time.

If you’re not into Facebook, you’ll still be in the Social Club by signing up on the website- you’ll get emails from us from time to time and can write us back directly.

We’re using the new, private Facebook page because it lets everyone know a bit more about each other, inluding us and the band members. And, it means we don’t have to spend tons of money hiring a web designer to build a system for this sort of communication.

That doesn’t mean the Message Board isn’t useful- it is, and it will remain. But we hope you’ll join the Social Club also. Just go to the Luceromusic.com landing page and enter your email and info, and you’ll get the link to the Facebook page and a couple welcome emails from us.

The New Record…

Hey guys- finally, the wait is over!
The new Lucero record, “1372 Overton Park”, is coming out October 6th.
We’ll have a full album Pre-Order with some extras soon here.

June Update from Ben

Hey everybody. This is Ben. Just got home from the west coast leg of the tour. We’re run ragged. Figured I’d write a little something to let everybody know we made it home alive once again.

Man o man… where to begin. We wrapped up recording at Ardent at four in the morning and left for St. Louis at 11am April 9th. Damn that seems like forever ago. We have to thank the Titus boys for doing the east coast with us. All the shows were pretty solid and all the crowds were really nice to us. Had a day off in D.C. and I went by Walter Reed hospital for a bit. There had been a few guys at the show the night before who were staying there and they invited me out. There’s some really brave guys there. Most the guys I met had no idea who the hell I was of course, much less what the hell I was doing there, but it was an experience I couldn’t pass up.

Went home for a few days and added some final touches to the recording before we headed west. Hooked up with Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears in Houston. They were with us for over two weeks and they were a blast. Great band from Austin. Old school R&B stuff played by these young kids with bad ass style. We got along with them real well. And they had horns! Gotta get us some of those. Speaking of Austin, it’s always been one of my favorite towns to play and this show was another fun one. Got to thank everybody that came out, I think it was the biggest show we’ve played outside of festivals. So thanks everybody for putting up with the heat.

Yup. Houston and Austin were brutally hot. Started getting sick in Ft. Worth and my voice was gone by Lubbock. Sorry bout that one. Ha. There’s a few shows in our history that are infamous (anybody remember Boston with the Weakerthans?) for their… what would ya call it… train wreck qualities. Lubbock was one of em. Luckily the voice started to come back and the only other show I dropped the ball on was Solona Beach. Ever had a bad day at work? Well I had one that night. Ouch. Good part about this job is there is always next time. San Diego’s always been great to Lucero and I’ll make it up to ya’ll next time we’re in town. Wouldn’t be Lucero if there wasn’t a chance of us derailing. But like I said the other shows over the next three weeks were pretty solid and just fun as hell. It was real nice to get back to Vancouver again. We’ll need to play Canada some more for sure. Played on top of a mountain in Colorado. I’m sure there’s pictures out there somewhere. Got to see a lot of beutiful country on this run.

Hooked up with Chuck Ragan and John Gaunt for the last week and a half of the run. Always good seeing Chuck. Ever since I met him and John, and especially after I did the Revival Tour with em, they’ve been like family. I think Chuck’s gonna do that Revival thing again. Might be too busy to make it this year, but I’ll be back the next year for sure. Hell, we’ve talked about all of Lucero going out on the Revival Tour some time. We’ll see what happens.

Finished up with Elvis Fest in Tupelo and Wakarusa in Arkansas. It was nice to be back in the South. Now I’m hearing the final mixes of the new record and they’re sounding pretty damn good thanks to Tedd Hutt our producer. Hopefully everything stays on schedule and this thing’ll come out in October. Hopefully. Got a brand new song on there that we haven’t played live yet called "Mom". Heard it for the first time last night. I’m just real excited about it.

So that’s probably too much detail, but I figured I’d chime in. I ain’t on the computer very much, don’t have the patience for it. But thank ya’ll for having the patience to read this and stick with us. I have to say getting to meet all these great folks at our shows is really an honor. We appreciate all of ya.

take care out there. -Ben

Lucero looking for videographers!

Lucero is really pleased to announce that the new album is finished. Details to come very soon.
In the meantime, we’re making plans to do one video for each song on the album and we’re interested in hearing from you if you’ve got the skills and interest to make one.

Here’s the deal:

1. Low budgets- most likely a couple hundred dollars- will be supplied by us. Assume you won’t be able to have the band in it, unless you can come to Memphis and even so, we’ll stay out of most of them.
We want cool ideas- anything goes.
2. Tell us about what your credits are and what your ideas are. We’ll help you match up with one of the new songs and get you the audio.
3. We need videos delivered by August 1st.
4. You’ll be fully credited. Your video will mostly live online- we’ll be creating a Video player for our website and will feature them across a ton of online sites and outlets.

Our record label will be able to use all of them for promotional purposes. In short, you’ll get a lot of press and credit for them, but just a little bit of money. Hey, that seems to be the way of the record business these days.

We also plan to make all the videos available as a downloadable video file to come free with the new album. But plans aren’t final by any stretch.

5. Please contact lucero@therebelgroup.com and Thaddeus from the management office and Brian from the band will check out your ideas and coordinate all the details.

April Update from Ben

Hey folks. Just got back from SXSW last week and went straight into Ardent Studios. As far as South by Southwest goes, we had a blast. Five shows in three days and we didn’t mess any of them up too bad. It’s always crazy down there but with the help of our tour manager Will we made it through just fine. We have to thank all the folks that came out to see us and the venues for having us. Got to see my little brothers and some old friends… yup, good time all around. Now. Recording. This is our first record for Univeral Republic and we’re at Ardent studios in midtown Memphis. This is actually only the second time we’ve done a full band record in Memphis (That Much Further West was the only other one). I think we made a good choice. We wanted to take our favorite pieces of Memphis music history and combine it with the drunken rock&roll we usually play and see what we came up with. This is gonna be a soulful one folks. We’ve got a lot of the basic tracking down and now we’re getting into the really fun stuff, like Rick Steff’s keyboard parts and horns and backup singers. Yup. Backup singers. Don’t worry. We’re working with a producer named Ted Hutt and he’s got a really good idea of how to get this record where it needs to go. We’re using a bunch of great Memphis musicians and we’re in a studio that has been at the center of a lot of great Memphis recordings… we’re in good hands. Can’t wait for ya’ll to hear this stuff. Everybody in the band is really excited. So hopefully we’ll get some pictures up soon from the recording session. Brian’s working on some guitar parts right now. Time for me to head back over there and sing a few. Take care out there ya’ll. -Ben

Lucero Update

Hope ya’ll are doing well out there.  It’s been a good week for us Lucero folks.  We have to thank all the kids that came out to Luke’s benefit show at the Rev Room in Little Rock.  It went great.  Thanks for helping us pull that off.  The two days before that show we were in the studio at Young Ave Sound working on more demos for the upcoming Lucero album.  It’s been a while since we released Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers, but the demos are coming along real well and hopefully it’ll all be worth the wait in the end.  In the meantime there is always The Last Pale Light in the West to tide you over.  Speaking of which, Rick Steff and I actually went in and did an interview for the NPR show “Day to Day” and played some songs from that album live.  The show aired on Friday January 16th but if you missed it you can go to the NPR website and listen to it.  Another thing that is pretty cool is the trailer for $5 Cover that is up and running at www.fivedollarcover.com.  We were real lucky to be a part of that project.  Hopefully we can see more of it soon.  I guess that covers it for now.  Thanks as always for checking in.  I know Roy’s got some stuff up his sleeve he’s working on so check back soon, maybe we’ll have some more news for ya.
