FINALLY! http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/332499/5-cover-teaser.jhtmlThey made Ben out to be much tougher/cooler/sluttier than he actually is, right? I'm still confused as to whether this will air on TV or the internet as webisodes. I'm so excited for Lucero to be exposed to the masses, as well as the Memphis music scene.

SO not based on real life!
The chick is Clare and you'll recognize her as the groupie from Walk the Line.(She goes backstage with Johnny during his first tour with June) Not a good description, but that's all I know her from.
It's a reality show, so the situations are completely fictional.

You can only need what you want for so long... till it slowly starts to fade into the background, only to rear its not so ugly head at the most inopportune moment. I know what I need, but I want what I want.

As in "The Larry David Show," actors in "$5 Cover" essentially will play themselves, in partly improvised and partly scripted linked dramatic and comedic stories shot on location at the Hi-Tone Café, the Young Avenue Deli, Otherlands Coffee Bar, Java Cabana and other Midtown venues, homes and recordings studios. From http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/jul/10/midtown-to-star-in-online-drama/

This comment came across ninebullets.net today: Comment: Hey, ya'll - this is David Harris from MTV, one of the producers of $5 Cover. The film was written and directed by Craig Brewer (who wrote and directed Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan) - and even though the bands play themselves, it's not a reality show. The project is made up of: 1. a feature-length web-series made entirely in Memphis by Memphis filmmakers and musicians with full creative control 2. twelve documentaries on the bands in the series produced and directed by Memphis photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Alan Spearman 3. thirty-five videos about Memphis creative outlets from galleries to bands to venues. Some of us do listen to music still, and we've spent a lot of time listening to Memphis Music, from Lucero and Jack Oblivian to Al Kapone and Muck Sticky to Two Way Radio and Snowglobe. We're excited to help get this music out there and we're glad that we can help get some of these bands the attention they deserve. So, if you're looking for Audrina, you're going to be disappointed... Thanks for checking out the trailer, and look for more soon. Most of the bands from the show will be at SXSW in March for the Memphis music showcase. Can I just say that I found out about this in May of last year from a gal who was dating one of the musicians featured in this thing and he was told to watch the Hills for inspiration. I knew it would be nothing like that cause this is Memphis, not Los Angeles, we keep it as real as possible here. I lovelovelove my music scene and I can't wait for everyone else in this country to realize that Memphis music is alive and kicking! I think that Amy Lavere is gonna gain a lot of fans from this, along with Lucero.

This is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for Lucero. I don't think anyone should begrudge the boys a chance to put more money in their pockets and actually make a real living. Lucero won't change because of this, I have faith in our boys.
